Jerry Newman has been doing portraiture and portraits of many of San Francisco's most colorful and local citizens ( I mean denizens).
As years rolled by ( in an auto and on foot), Jerry Newman found his Photography reflected his views : It showed a physical motion between places, a variety of people that he met, and a fascination with structures and natural places.
He said: "Photography shows what is, not what we hope for". Portraiture can show what is, but it can also show your presence, your gravitas, your reserve or your sass.
Portraiture allows both the subject and the artist in their own way to speak to the future.
His summary of his photos was:"If my photography can help another person (or many persons) to look rather than to see, I will have accomplished a future."
